The Alabama Virtual Library (AVL) provides all students, teachers, and citizens of the State of Alabama with online access to essential library and information resources. It is primarily a group of online databases that have magazine, journal, and newspaper articles for research.

Artemis Literary Sources provides combined access to Dictionary of Literary Biography, Literature Criticism Online and to Something About the Author Online, and provides information on authors and their works in all genres and disciplines.

 

Artemis Literary Sources includes the following series:  Children's Literature Review, Classical and Medieval Literature Criticism, Contemporary Literary Criticism, Drama Criticism, Literature Criticism from 1400 to 1800, Nineteenth-Century Literature Criticism, Poetry Criticism, Shakespearean Criticism, Short Story Criticism, and Twentieth-Century Literary Criticism.

Britanicca - Middle School

Britannica - Middle School is a searchable online encyclopedia with thousands of articles, images, videos, audio clips, primary sources, maps, and editor-recommended websites.

Gale Research in Context

Gale Research in Context ​includes engaging reference, periodical, and multimedia content—Books, images, biographies, audio, video, magazines, newspapers, creative works, and primary sources.  Categories cover cultures, government, people, U.S. history, sports, world history, geography, literature, science, and social issues – including nearly 300 topic pages and overviews on the subjects and social issues most studied by and relevant to middle school users.

SIRS Discoverer

SIRS Discoverer is a database for middle school learners, researchers, and educators covering  current events, history, health, language arts, math, science, social studies, and technology. Collection includes content from newspapers, magazines, over 9,000 integrated educational weblinks, and reference materials such as the Compton’s by Britannica encyclopedia and DK Eyewitness books.
